With no sign of a Metroid game for over 10 years, gamers were surprised to see Metroid Prime's announcement. Excitement reeled as the first game from a renowned series had sprung to life when thought dead. Though, with some innovations, there came doubts.
Metroid Prime was the first Metroid game to have a first person point of view. Many players complained about this, but were immediately shushed by the game's rich, lush environments. From the icy plains of Phendrana Drifts to the oven-hot, burning tunnels of Magmoor Caverns, players saw a wide variety of detailed areas. With the new visor system, you can scan anything or nothing. If you just want to rush through the game, you can. If you want to know what's going on, take a breather and scan some storyline. Even all the old moves are included. You have the Morph Ball, Morph Ball Bomb, Power Bomb, Missiles, X-ray Visor, and even some new upgrades such as the Boost Ball, Phazon Suit, various Beam upgrades, etc. There are even new types of Metroids!
The music for this game suits it. You rarely find a happy-go-lucky sounding piece in Metroid games. The music tries to get across a theme of loneliness, a Samus vs. everything feeling. The boss music can be really intense (or just sound good) and the separate world music give you a feeling like something can jump out at you. In some cases (*cough* Magmoor Caverns *cough*) they pretty much took music out of a previous game and made it sound better. That's right, they FORCED it to be better.
